Summerville High School's varsity football team is preparing for the start of the 2018 football season.

The Bears, who made it to the playoffs last year before falling to the Hilmar Yellowjackets, start their season at home.

This year's schedule gets underway Friday, Aug. 24 against Mariposa Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies were 4-3 in league play last year and 5-6 overall.

The game begins at Summerville High School at 7 p.m.
