Sonora boys basketball to begin playoffs at home Friday


The Sonora High School boys varsity basketball team capped off their perfect season with a 78-50 win over Linden this week.

That gives them a 12-0 Mother Lode League record and the chance to start their playoffs run at home.

Jace Decker led the way on scoring with 20. Damien Kress had 14, Austin Patterson had nine. Trey Hawkins had seven and Rico Sanchez added six.

“It was a physical first half of basketball,” said coach Lloyd Longeway. e really played better defense in the second half and the bench brought great energy to finish the game.”

The Wildcats will look to take that energy into the CIF Sac Joaquin section tournament where they’re the No. 1 seed in the Division IV bracket. Friday, Feb. 23 is their first game and they’ll play the winner of Wednesday’s game between No. 8 El Dorado and No. 9 Foothill.

Friday’s game begins at 7 p.m. at Bud Castle Gym.
