Summerville varsity wrestler Brennen Dibble finished the regular season with a win at the Mother Lode League Championships held at Linden High School.

For the second straight year, Dibble, a junior, wrestling in the 106-pound category took home the title, finishing 2-0 on the tournament.

“Brennen is wrestling extremely well as he cruised through his two matches beating Travis Pingree from Sonora by fall in 3:08 of the second round,” said his coach Jordan DePaoli.

Dibble then took care of Tyler Ferrante of Calaveras by fall in 49 seconds.

Sophomore Austin White went 2-1 for a third place in the 120-pound weight category after beating Jason Belogub of Argonaut by decision 9-2.

“Austin was very close to making the finals, and we feel that it is a matchup that he can overcome next week, but it was huge to comeback and take third after his semifinal loss.”

In the 138-pound category, junior Brandon Lesley finished 1-1 taking third place beating Dominic Chavez of Argonaut by fall in 1:48 of the first round.

Austin Luckett (152) went 2-1 for a third place finish. He beat Kenny Salvi from Bret Harte by fall in 1:21 of the first round. He also beat Rodolfo Aguiar by fall in 1:49 of the first round.

Senior Carson Caya (220) had a strong showing, finishing second after beating Argonaut’s Aaron Braswell by fall in the first round. He lost to the champion Victory Moore of Calaveras, 4-0.

“Carson wrestled Victor the way we game planned and we came up just short. He was down 1-0 until the last 10 seconds when he took a chance and gave up more points,” said DePaoli.

Caya may see Moore again in the Division 5 meet this weekend and coach and wrestler are already talking gameplan.

“Bottomline, Carson needs to be able to take Victor down or get out on bottom,” said DePaoli.

Also placing for the Bears was sophomore Cayden Schulz (160) with a fourth place finish.

Here’s how junior varsity wrestlers finished: Levi Izzo (120), second place; Connor Cowley (132), third place; Josh Caldera(138),third place.

“All of the JV wrestlers finished the season strongly, and they are all very young so next year we expect great things from them,” said DePaoli.

Division tournament action begins Friday morning.

“The team knows this is where the season could end if they are not mentally and physically prepared. We are confident that our wrestlers can make some noise,” said DePaoli.
