The Sonora High School girls varsity team is on a winning streak. They beat Bret Harte Monday night 49-29 to move them to 2-0 in league play ahead of tonight’s league game against Argonaut.

“We started a little slow,” said coach Amy Emerald.

Emerald said it was just a case of the Mondays and she encouraged her team to use it as motivation.

“I told my team it’s Monday for them too, pick it up and we definitely did,” she said.

In the second quarter the Wildcats outscored the ‘Frogs 16-1.

“Our defense picked up and we started boxing out a lot better,” said Emerald.

Caitlin Baker and Jessica Berry each had a double double.

Baker, a senior, had eleven points and 11 rebounds. Berry, a freshman, had 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Sophomore Ainslee Shuemake had six points.

Angelina Ray had five points. Freshman Jacey Hawkins had seven rebounds and six steals.

Sophomore Riley Hessler had five points.

Tonight’s game at Bud Castle Gym starts tonight at 7:30 p.m.
