The Sonora Wildcats boys’ basketball team is now 3-0 in MLL play after picking up a 66-51 win Thursday over the Bret Harte Bullfrogs in Angels Camp.

Sonora used the second quarter as a way to separate itself from the Bullfrogs. The Wildcats outscored Bret Harte 17-7. Asides from that, Sonora outscored Bret Harte 14-13 in the first, 16-13 in the third and 19-18 in the fourth.

Sonora’s Nate Patterson led all scorers with a game-high 27 points. Junior Jace Decker added 10 points for Sonora.

Wildcat head coach Dan Dona was pleased with the play of Patterson, as well as the play out of Jacob Storm.

“Jacob played really well at the point, making good passes against their zone,” Dona said. “He was a key to our win tonight.”

Bret Harte got 13 points from Sophomore Michael Costa, 11 from Colin Preston and 10 from Inderpal Dhaliwal.

Sonora (12-3, 3-0 MLL) plays at home Thursday against Argonaut, while Bret Harte (7-9, 1-2 MLL) plays against Summerville in Tuolumne.

JV — The Wildcats junior varsity topped Bret Harte 59-29 Tuesday night in Sonora. The Wildcats had a 32-16 halftime lead.

Evan Bearden led Sonora with 17 points, followed by Weston Parnell with nine, Austin Patterson with eight and Trey Hawkins and Cooper Carpenter each added five points.

Wildcat soccer girls beat Bullfrogs

The Sonora Wildcats girls’ soccer team picked up a 5-2 win over the Bret Harte Bullfrogs Tuesday night on a wet Dunlavy Field in Sonora.

The Wildcats got two goals from Brenna Canepa and Ally Morfoot and sophomore Bella Patterson added one.

Sonora (2-9-1, 1-2 MLL) will play Thursday on Argonaut’s grass field in Jackson.

Bret Harte (6-3, 1-2 MLL) looks to rebound Thursday at it hosts the Summerville bears. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

JV — Sonora’s junior varsity girls’ soccer team defeated Bret Harte 4-1 Tuesday night in Sonora. The Wildcats got goals from Fabbi Althouse, two from Elise Sturzenacker and one from Amanda Teem for the 4-1 win.

Summerville girls’ soccer stays perfect in MLL

The Summerville Bears girls’ soccer team stayed unbeaten in league play with a 3-0 win over Calaveras Tuesday night in Tuolumne.

The Bears got two goals from Grace Davis and one from Kennedy Brockett.

Summerville (7-3-1, 3-0 MLL) will look to keep its record perfect as it plays at 7 p.m. Thursday against Bret Harte in Angels Camp.

JV — The junior varsity Bears beat Calaveras 3-0. Summerville got goals two goals from Madison Mitchell and one from Rachel Tyler.

stays unbeaten in MLL

In what head coach Kraig Clifton called “a good defensive game,” the Calaveras boys’ basketball team beat Summerville 58-31 Tuesday night in San Andreas.

Calaveras jumped out to a 13-4 first quarter lead and led 30-15 at halftime. Calaveras held Summerville to only five points in the fourth quarter.

Calaveras got 19 points from junior Kyle Byrd, 14 points and 12 boards from Dillon Autry and Bowie Wood added eight points and seven assists.

Calaveras (14-2, 2-0 MLL) hosts Amador on Thursday and plays in Sonora on Friday. Summerville (5-13, 1-2) faces Bret Harte Thursday in Tuolumne and plays Friday in Jackson against Argonaut.

JV — Summerville’s junior varsity basketball team fell 51-38 over Calaveras Tuesday in San Andreas.

The Bears got 10 points from Mitchell Prevost, eight from Adam Sweitzer and Octavian Hernandez and four from Logan Conklin and Cameron Traill. Prevost had eight rebounds, Hernandez had nine and Sweitzer had five.

Wildcat girls’ basketball keeps rolling along

Sonora’s Makenna Poole had a strong performance in the Wildcats’ 54-33 win over Bret Harte Tuesday night in Sonora.

The senior scored 13 points, pulled down 14 rebounds, had 10 steals and four assists.

It’s a good thing that Poole was on, because the Wildcats only had seven players suited up on Tuesday due to illness and other commitments.

Sha’nece Garrett scored 12 and had five rebounds. Caitlin Baker scored 11, had five rebounds and three assists. Haylie Santos scored six, pulled down six boards, had nine steals and dished four assists. Molly O’Reilly scored three and had three rebounds, Carley Copello scored seven and Emma Fray pulled down six boards and scored two.

Sonora (13-2, 3-0 MLL) has a pair of big matchups this week. On Thursday the Wildcats play Argonaut and bounce back and play at Calaveras Friday in San Andreas.

Bret Harte (7-9, 1-2 MLL) hosts Summerville on Thursday.

Sonora boys’ soccer beats Bret Harte

On a cold, rainy and windy night, one goal was enough for the Sonora Wildcats to top the Bret Harte Bullfrogs Tuesday night in Angels Camp.

“The weather wasn’t very pleasant for a soccer game,” said Sonora head coach Qani Berisha.

The only goal of the game was scored by senior Zach Whitmer in the second half. Whitmer received a pass from Pedro Ramos and dribbled around a Bret Harte defender for the goal.

Wildcat sophomore goalkeeper Spencer Loop was solid and recorded a clean sheet.

Sonora (2-0-1 MLL), will host Argonaut Thursday at Dunlavy Field in Sonora while Bret Harte will face Summerville in Tuolumne.
