Argonaut and Calaveras won in varsity girls basketball Tuesday night, meaning Argonaut will be league champion or Calaveras will earn a share of the title, depending on results Friday, the last day of league play.
Sonora’s 44-21 win over Amador in Sutter Creek ensured the Wildcats, 6-3 in league play, will make the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. Sonora’s last league game is scheduled at 6 p.m. Friday against Summerville at Bud Castle Gym in Sonora.
Calaveras beat Summerville 62-44 Tuesday night in San Andreas to improve to 7-2 in league play. The last league game for Calaveras is set for 6 p.m. Friday against Bret Harte in San Andreas.
Argonaut beat Bret Harte 57-19 in Angels Camp and improved to 8-1 in the Mother Lode League. Argonaut finishes against 0-9 Amador at 6 p.m. Friday in Sutter Creek.
The Sonora varsity boys basketball team beat Amador 82-54 as Austin Patterson scored 10 three-pointers and finished with 43 points total. Sonora, who clinched their third consecutive Mother Lode League title last week, improved to 9-0 in league play.
Other scorers for Sonora versus Amador included Gabe Milbourn and Devon Dye with 8 points each, Callahan Hanson and Jon Mayben with 6 points each, Darius O’Neal with 4 points, Spencer Copello with 3 points, and Brian Maalialo and Cole Edwards with 2 points each.
The Wildcats wrap up league play at 6 p.m. Friday versus Summerville at home.
Also Tuesday night, Calaveras beat Summerville 56-31 in Tuolumne, improving to 6-3 in the league as the Bears fell to 0-9. Calaveras ends league play at home at 6 p.m. Friday against Bret Harte.
Bret Harte lost to Argonaut 60-35 Tuesday night at Argonaut High School in Jackson. The Bullfrogs fell to 2-7 in league play and Argonaut improved to 5-4, even with Amador.
The Sonora varsity girls soccer team tied Summerville 1-1 Tuesday night in Tuolumne. The Wildcats scored first on a goal by sophomore attacker Tyler King. Summerville equalized in the second half.
Sonora finished undefeated in the Mother Lode League with 8 wins, zero losses, and 2 ties. They clinched the undisputed league championship last week. Sonora, Amador and Summerville will move on in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. Postseason brackets, including seeds, opponents and match locations, are expected to be released Friday afternoon.
