The Columbia College Claim Jumpers beat Merced College 89-73 on the road Wednesday night to stay in second place in the Central Valley Conference, improving to 24-3 and 10-3 in conference play.

The win clinched a first-round home game in the upcoming playoffs for the Claim Jumpers, Columbia College coaching staff said.

Leading scorers for the Jumpers were Grayson Carper with 23 points, Landis Spivey with 18, DeShawn Bartley with 15, Seth Coddington with 12 and Kaleb Carter with 12 points.

The Jumpers have one regular season game left at 6 p.m. Saturday, on the road at West Hills Coalinga College, 0-13 in conference play and 0-27 overall, in Fresno County.

Playoffs matchups, including who Columbia will play at home in the first round, are expected to be announced Monday next week. 

Columbia is ranked 15th in the state in a poll of California community college men’s basketball coaches released Feb. 17.
