HED: Sonora varsity boys thump Bret Harte in soccer 4-0, Wildcats girls win 10-0
SUBHED: The Wildcats improved to 3-1 to lead Mother Lode League play, ahead of Calaveras at 2-1 and Summerville at 1-1

The Sonora varsity boys soccer team dominated Bret Harte, scoring in the first 30 seconds and twice on subsequent penalty kicks, to win 4-0 over the Bullfrogs at Dunlavy Field on Thursday night.
Riley Keaster, number 9 for Sonora, capitalized on a fast break to beat the Bret Harte keeper at the very start of the match to make it 1-0 with less than half a minute gone. Tyler Tipton, number 7, scored once from the penalty spot and added a second goal later in the match. Kai Perez, number 3, also scored on a penalty.
Sonora improved to 3-1 to lead Mother Lode League play, ahead of Calaveras at 2-1 and the Summerville Bears at 1-1. Bret Harte fell to 0-3 in the Mother Lode League.
The Wildcats varsity boys are scheduled to play next against Argonaut at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at Dunlavy Field.
Calaveras had a game scheduled Thursday against Amador in Sutter Creek and that game was postponed due to weather concerns.
Sonora varsity girls soccer team routed Bret Harte 10-0 on Thursday night at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp.
Sonora midfielders Mikaela Patterson and Amarys Machado scored three goals each. Attacker Brenna Canepa and midfielders Jasmine Reynolds and Sophie Patterson scored one goal each. The 10th goal was an own goal scored by Bret Harte, Sonora head coach Kurt Wolken said.
The Wildcats are now 3-0-1 in Mother Lode League play, in first place ahead of Summerville at 2-0-1.
The Sonora varsity girls are scheduled to play next against Argonaut at Argonaut High School in Jackson at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
In varsity boys basketball Friday night, Sonora beat Bret Harte 64-21 at Bret Harte in Angels Camp.
Austin Patterson scored 22 points for the Wildcats; Jon Mayben scored 15; Darius O’Neal scored 8; Gabe Milbourn and Devon Dye scored 6 points each; Callahan Hanson scored 3; and Cole Edwards and Ben White scored 2 points each.
The win improved Sonora to 16-3 overall and 2-0 in Mother Lode League play for a share of the lead league with Amador, also 2-0 in league play. They are scheduled to play next against Argonaut at Bud Castle Gym at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Calaveras rebounded from a loss Sonora on Tuesday last week to defeat Argonaut 64-53 on Friday at Calaveras High School in San Andreas. Calaveras improved to 14-4 overall and 1-1 in Mother Lode League play.
Also Friday night, Summerville lost on the road 68-32 at Amador in Sutter Creek. Summerville’s league record is 0-2, just ahead of Bret Harte at 0-3.
The Sonora Wildcats varsity girls basketball team beat Bret Harte 62-23 in Bud Castle Gym on Friday night, to stay atop Mother Lode League standings with a 2-0 league record so far this season.
Also Friday night, Summerville defeated Amador 50-37 on Friday at Amador High School in Sutter Creek, and Calaveras beat Argonaut 67-64 at Calaveras in San Andreas.
The results left Summerville, Bret Harte, Calaveras and Argonaut with 1-1 records and tied for second place in the Mother Lode League. Amador is last in league standings at 0-2.
