The Columbia College men's basketball team beat visiting San Mateo 84-66 on Saturday to remain unbeaten and improve to 14-0 so far this season.
The Claim Jumpers are currently ranked #4 in a statewide Jan. 6 California Community College Men’s Basketball Coaches Association poll, behind #1 City College of San Francisco, 14-0, #2 Fullerton, 14-0, #3 Santiago Canyon, 15-0, and ahead of East L.A., 14-1.
The Claim Jumpers now begin Central Valley Conference play and their next game is scheduled at 7 p.m. Wednesday at 10th-ranked Fresno City College, 11-3. Then at 6 p.m. Saturday they play at 7-7 Porterville. Their next home game is is 6 p.m. Jan. 15 when they host 9-5 Reedley in the Oak Pavilion.
In Saturday’s win over San Mateo, Grayson Carper led all Columbia scorers with 26 points, Caleb Carter added 16, Landis Spivey scored 14, and Deshawn Bartley scored 10. Substitutes Kenyon Pierce and Seth Coddington contributed 8 points each.
The Claim Jumpers are in the midst of their best season-opening run in decades. This is the winningest start to a Columbia season since the Claim Jumpers began 1992-93 with 11 straight wins. They went on to win a 1993 state championship.
