Sonora High School sophomore runner Adin Dibble placed first Saturday in a 5,000 meters race featuring small school division varsity cross country boys competitors at the 2019 Asics Clovis XC Invitational Meet at Woodward Park in Fresno County.

Dibble finished in 15 minutes, 41.4 seconds, and moved into third on a list of all-time top 10 Sonora Wildcats finishers over 41 years of results at the Clovis event, Sonora High School cross country varsity head coach Frank Garcia said Tuesday in a phone interview.

The sophomore’s finish time on Saturday, Oct. 12 places Dibble ahead of Steven Grolle in 2013, behind Jason Hart in 1996, and two places behind Darren Holman in 1994, Garcia said.

“I have no doubt Adin will become one of our top 10 runners of all time,” Garcia said. “Steven Grolle went on to run at Stanford University. Darren Holman went on to run professionally, for Nike, and he’s now a coach at Stanislaus State University, the Warriors.”

Sonora High School has had one cross country state champion, Jason Hart, who won a state cross country meet, Garcia said.

“Adin has that ability,” Garcia said. “He can win at the state meet at the same course in November.”

The 2019 Asics Clovis XC Invitational Meet at Woodward Park was the 41st edition of the event, hosted by Clovis High School, Garcia said. There were about 1,500 high school athletes competing, from up and down the Golden State.

The small school division Sonora competed in is for schools with less than a thousand students enrolled, Garcia said.

Dibble’s time Saturday also ranks eighth on a current list of 5,000-meter times posted this season by cross country runners from 400 high schools in the California Interscholastic Federation Sac-Joaquin Section, Garcia said.

Sonora Wildcats in the small division varsity girls 5,000 meters included Brianna Personius, who finished 24th in 20 minutes, 2.4 seconds; Madison Clement, 59th in 21 minutes, 6.7 seconds; and Elise Struzenacker, 135th in 23 minutes, 39.9 seconds.

Other Wildcats runners who placed in the small division varsity boys 5,000 meters on Saturday included Clayton Franco, 13th place in 16 minutes, 18 seconds; Adam Aldrich, 112th in 18 minutes 12 seconds; Kyle Smith, 113th in 18 minutes, 12.1 seconds; Brian McGee, 165th in 19 minutes 18.9 seconds; James McGee, 176th in 19 minutes, 42.5 seconds; and Breno Saavedra, 188th in 20 minutes, 30.5 seconds.

Sonora High School placed 15th as a team. Wildcats assistant cross country coaches are Corri Land and Julianne Personius.
