The Sonora Wildcats varsity water polo girls, seeking a third consecutive Division III title, beat Dixon, 14-5, Tuesday morning in Modesto to advance to the division finals match this Saturday in Roseville outside Sacramento.

Megan Slater and Kayla Landman led Wildcats scorers Tuesday in a match where they had to adjust to the absence of a key central defender, Taetum Arnett, who was suspended for one match for an altercation that occurred in Sonora’s first-round home win last Thursday.

Sonora coach Matt Personius said the Wildcats came out fairly strong on defense in the first period, when they opened up a 3-0 lead, forcing errors and capitalizing on transition attacks for goals.

Sonora is scheduled to play in the Division III final at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 at Roseville Aquatics Complex, 3051 Woodcreek Oaks Blvd. in Roseville.
