The Columbia College Claim Jumpers men’s basketball team won two games this past weekend to improve to 8-0 so far this 2019-2020 season.
The Jumpers won two games in the Columbia College Classic they hosted Saturday and Sunday at the Oak Pavilion on campus.
Saturday Columbia beat Lassen College 92-71 with defense and pressing. Freshman guard Grayson Carper helped lead the Jumpers with six 3-pointers and 22 points total, Columbia College athletics staff said Monday.
Other leading scorers for Columbia included sophomore guard Keith Shakes with 15 points, freshman guard Deshawn Bartley with 12, and sophomore center Kaleb Carter with 12. As a team, the Jumpers made 14 three-pointers and scored 13 of 15 from the free throw line.
On Sunday, the Jumpers took on Folsom Lake College and led 47-22 at halftime. Carper was Columbia’s leading scorer again with 23 points. Sophomore guard Landis Spivey added 22 points for the Jumpers. The Jumpers defeated Folsom Lake 87-65.
The Jumpers play next at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, and return home to host Alameda College at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Columbia College Claim Jumpers compete in the Central Valley Conference, in which they finished third last year with a 12-4 conference record. The Claim Jumpers finished 2018-19 with a 21-8 record overall.
Columbia begins conference play this season on Jan. 8 when they visit Fresno City College. Columbia College is part of the Yosemite Community College District.
