The top-seeded Sonora Wildcats water polo girls defeated third-seeded Kimball 16-7 on Saturday in Roseville to become Sac-Joaquin Section Division III champions for a third straight year.

The Wildcats now move on to the next level in postseason play, the California Interscholastic Federation NorCal Varsity Girls Water Polo Championships. They are top-seeded again in NorCal Division III, this time among a field of eight teams.

“We are happy to have the number one seed,” Sonora varsity girls coach Matt Personius said Monday morning. “Looking at the competition and shared opponents, I believe our chances are good to advance through the bracket.”

Their next playoff elimination match is against San Joaquin Memorial scheduled at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Sonora High School.
