The Sonora Wildcats varsity water polo girls beat El Camino from Sacramento 19-4 under the lights Thursday evening at Sonora Aquatic Center in a scrappy playoffs match that included a fight with two players ejected late in the first period.
Top scorers for Sonora on Thursday included senior center Emily Van Noord with six goals and junior attacker Megan Slater with eight goals.
Taetum Arnett, number 15 for Sonora, and Grace Larsen, number 2 for El Camino, were whistled by game officials for exchanging blows with closed fists. Arnett is suspended for the Wildcats’ next playoffs match, scheduled at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Johansen High School in Modesto, a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section official in Lodi said Friday in a phone interview.
Officials awarded penalty shots to each team.
