The Calaveras High School varsity football team travels to Sacramento on Friday to take on Bradshaw Christian at 7:30 p.m.

Calaveras is coming off a 24-0 defeat last week to Ripon High School at Frank Meyer Field in San Andreas. Bradshaw Christian lost 14-6 last week to East Nicolaus in Sutter County.

The Bradshaw Christian Pride wear purple and gold and they play in the Sierra Valley Conference. They feature a run-focused offense led by junior quarterback Elijah Christian, and senior backs Jeremiah Bonner-Hayes and Evan Zeppieri, who helped the Pride dominate their 41-21 win over Durham in Butte County on Aug. 30.

Bradshaw Christian football players also know how to defend under pressure. The Pride defense came up with a stop on fourth-and-goal at their own four yard line three-and-a-half weeks ago to ensure a 24-7 win over Salesian College Preparatory School on Aug. 24 in Richmond.

The red-and-white team from San Andreas notched their own dominant road win Sept. 6 when they went to Modesto and whipped Modesto Christian 42-8. Skill players who helped Calaveras score points that night included senior quarterback Nolan Dart, senior back Jonny Lozano, and junior receiver Clayton Moore. Defenders who helped contain Modesto Christian included junior back Jake Black and senior linebacker Donivan Giangregorio.

A bright spot last week for the team from San Andreas was Calaveras running back Clayton Moore, who carried 23 times for 101 yards in the shutout home loss against Ripon. Dart was sacked five times in that game, so Doug Clark, the first-year Calaveras head coach, will be looking for improvements in pass protection from the Calaveras offensive line.

Bradshaw Christian, a non-profit, non-denominational Christian school, was founded in 1993 and people there celebrated the school’s 25th anniversary last year. Calaveras High School dates back to 1905.

Bradshaw Christian High School is about 55 miles and a 1 hour 10 minute drive from Calaveras High School in San Andreas, at 9555 Calvine Road in southeast Sacramento.
