The Modesto Christian Crusaders received the ball to start the game, but couldn’t get any yardage against Calaveras. It never got much better.
Calaveras took over on the 32 and pushed it down the field with a pass from quarterback Nolan Dart to Jonny Lozano for a touchdown. Kicker Andrew Celi made the extra point, making the score 7-0.
The Crusaders worked the ball down to the 3 yard line but could not punch the ball into the end zone. Calaveras took over with less than a minute to go in the first quarter.
As the second quarter began, Calaveras pushed downfield with a series made possible by Dart, Clayton Moore, Jake Black, Jake Hopper, and Lozano. Lozano made the touchdown and Celi’s extra point kick was good. Score 14-0 Calaveras.
With 7:16 left in the second quarter, the Crusaders began at the 41 yard line and drove the ball down the field, only to fumble.
Calaveras took over at the 36 with Moore the ball carrier for the first play. The team advances and Moore made the touchdown. Celi’s extra point was good once again, making the score 21-0, Calaveras.
The Crusaders brought the ball out to about the 48 yard line after the kick and then turned it over to Calaveras. Calaveras’ Moore scored his second touchdown, and again Celi drilled the extra point.
The Crusaders started at their 18 yard line with 1:18 left in the half, but couldn’t get past the 40 yard line.
At the end of the half Calveras led 28 -0.
Both teams shut down in the third quarter, but at the start of the fourth quarter, Ronnie Garcia was stopped just short of a TD with one yard to go. But then was able to scramble for a touchdown. Celli made the extra point. Score 42-0 Calaveras.
Calaveras kicked off to the Crusaders, who got the ball out past the 20 yard line. From the 9 yard line, the Crusaders scored their first touchdown of the game with 3:45 left in the fourth quarter. They made a 2 point conversion, bringing the score to 42-8 Calaveras.
On the next play with 48 second left in the game, the Calaveras quarterback took a knee. The Crusaders spent a time out to stop the clock.
Play resumed with Calaveras again taking a knee, leaving he score 42-8. It was Calaveras’ first win of the season. They will take their 1-1 record back home, where they will play Ripon next Friday.
