A local nonprofit organization is touting the eighth annual Glenn Bass Run fundraiser to help benefit the Sonora High School cross country team and other causes.

The event, set for Sept. 14, is named for the longtime Sonora High coach of track and field and cross country who retired in August 2016.

Glenn Bass ran track four years at Sonora High before he graduated in 1957. He coached track and field at Sonora for 18 years, and he coached Sonora cross country for 10 years. He will be honorary starter for the event again this year.

The event is planned at Wildcat Ranch, at Tuolumne Road and Wards Ferry roads in Sonora. Organizers are billing two timed distance runs: a one-mile run at 8 a.m. and a 5-kilometer run that starts at 8:30 a.m.

Pre-registration costs $20 for the one-mile run, $25 for the 5K run, and $45 for a family pack. Pre-registrations must be postmarked by Sept. 6. Race day costs to run are $25 for the one-mile run, $30 for the 5K run, and $55 for a family pack.

The Sonora High School cross country 5K course will be used for the event.

Sonora Lions organizers say funds raised from the event will help support sight preservation, local community needs, and the Wildcats cross country team. The nonprofit provides dontations averaging $4,000 annually to Wildcats cross country each year from proceeds from the Annual Glenn Bass Run.
