Rain, snow, freezing temperatures haven’t put a damper on Sonora High School’s start to the track and field season.

Friday the Wildcats traveled to Turlock for the Pitman Distance Wars and Pole Vault Jump Off.”

“We’ve had some outstanding results so far,” said head coach Frank Garcia.

This year he’s assisted by Jeremy MacDonald , Corri Land, Keith Rothrock, Donovan Walker, and Peter Smith.

In Turlock cross country all-league runner Clayton Franco, Adin Dibble, and Wil Otterson all had a successful races, said Garcia.

Franco and Dibble finished first and second in the boy’s 3200.

Both had personal bests — Franco, a sophomore, finished in 10:16.69a and Dibble, who is a freshman, was close on his heels with a 10:16.95a.

Dibble and Franco also placed in the 1600.

Sophomore Kyle Smith ran a 5:27.00a in the 1600.

Junior Will Otterson crossed the 800m finish line with a time of 2:28.7. Sophomore Kyle Smith ran a 5:27.00a in the 1600.

Three freshman made their debut in the 800 for the Wildcats.

Hailey Hanson recorded a 2:47.46a. Bethany VanSleet ran a3:00.98a and Erica Watkins finished in 3:14.65a.

In the pole vault, Jacob Smith cleared 10-feet, nine-inches. Sophomore Andrew Matlock had a personal record of nine-feet, six-inches.

Saturday the team was in Stockton for the Viking Invitational at Edison High School.

Junior Joziah Bradford placed first in the varsity boys triple jump with a personal record of 43-feet, 4-and three-fourths-inches.

The results earned him a qualifying spot in the elite Stanford Invitational set for next month.

Bradford is now the No. 11 ranked triple jumper in the state.

Senior CJ Castleman took home a second place finish in his 110m heat with an 11.6.

He was fifth overall. He also placed first in his 200m head with a 23.4. He also placed fifth overall in the event.

Senior Connor Pullen picked up a second place finish in the shot put with his 43-foot, one-inch throw.

He set a personal record in discus with a distance of 123-feet, six-inches.

Senior Garrett Anderson threw a 32-footer in the shot put and a 112-foot, seven-inch in discus.
