The Summerville Bears wrestling team was on the road this week for the start of their regular season matches.

Although they dropped their first outing to Calaveras, coach Brady Day said there’s already been plenty of improvement since last weekend’s final pre-season tournament. And this Bears team has plenty of positives to build on.

“The team score does not reflect how we wrestled. Everyone on our team came out and fought till the end,” said Day. “Win or lose, as a coach, that’s all we ask for. “

The Bears were able to put pressure on the Calaveras team in the third round of every match, said Day.

“No doubt we are in great shape,” he said.

The team’s next hurdle is mat experience.

“As a new and upcoming team we have a lot to improve on, But I believe we are headed in the right direction,” said Day.

The Bears picked up wins from Adam Ballard, Brennan Dibble and Austin Luckett.

“We have a lot of one and two-year wrestlers in our varsity lineup competing with more experienced wrestlers. With more time We will be a force to reckon with,” said Day.
