The Bret Harte bats weren’t quite enough for cross-county rival Sonora this week as the Frog’s dropped the first of two meetings between the teams this week, 8-4 at home.

Bret Harte got off to a strong start with Daniel Scott on the mound.

After a one-two-three inning, Bret Harte’s Michael Costa and Ryan Mercado each singled in a run to give the ‘Frogs an early 2-0 lead.

But Sonora would come roaring back in the third with a five-run inning.

The Wildcats capitalized on two one-out walks.Braden Hobbs doubled in two runs; Tyler Matyschock reached on a sac-fly error to score Hobbs; Mason Dambacher singled, bringing in Matyschock and Dalton Cuneo singled in Dambacher before a ground out ended the inning.

The Bullfrogs rallied in the fifth when Ryan Kraft hit a line-drive double to score Austin Lane and Lucas Bakke.

But Sonora’s Austin Johnson would hold them there through six innings.

Johnson had seven strikeouts, allowing six hits and four runs.

Braden Hobbs pitched in the seventh when he faced four Bret Harte hitters to wrap up the win.

Daniel Scott pitched four innings for Bret Harte, allowing five hits and eight runs. Austin Lane pitched three, allowing no runs on six strikeouts.

Mason Dambacher led the ‘Cats offensively with two hits.

Also earning hits for Sonora were Tyler Matyshock, Braden Hobbs, and Dalton Cuneo.

Bret Harte’s Ryan Kraft had two RBIs on one hit. Lucas Bakke, James Avecilla, Michael Costa, Ryan Mercado and Logan Apley also contributed a hit each.

Neither team gave up a home run.

Bret Harte is now 3-6 in Mother Lode League play.

Sonora is 7-1.

The two teams will meet again Friday at Sonora. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
