The name of the game for Summerville’s girls varsity softball team is progress says coach Nick Parry.

“We have a young team this year,” he said.

The Bears hosted Argonaut in MLL action Thursday, coming up short 9-3.

“We didn’t put enough runs on the board this game, but I am proud of the way the girls are coming together as a team,” said Parry.

With the score 3-0 in the third, the Summerville bats showed some spark with a three-run inning to tie the score.

The Bears’ Becky Hart, Laikin Skinner and Kaci Elkins each had an RBI in the inning.

Savanah Egger pitched seven innings for Summerville, striking out nine and allowing nine hits.

She was 2-3 at the plate and led the Bears on hits.

“We just need improve our bats which will score more runs. Overall (it was) a great game,” Parry said.

The loss moved the Bears to 0-5 in league play, and 2-8 overall.
