Round 1 playoff win? That’s a giant check mark for the Summerville High School girls basketball team.

In Tuesday night action the Bears took on the John Adams Academy Patriots and rolled to a 75-25 win.

The Bears are the No.4 seed in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Divison V bracket.

And they’ve got home court advantage.

“It was a great team win, everyone played,” said coach Greg Smith. “I’m proud of the effort.”

After the first quarter the Bears were up 24-19.

Then the team woke up, said Smith.

And the rest is now part of playoffs history.

Summerville held John Adams to just six points in the last three quarters.

Leading the scoring effort for the Bears was Serafina Peterson with 18 points.

Grace Fulkerson had 13 points. Karina Herrera had 12 points.

Emili Rico added nine points.

“I loved our press, our unselfish passing, and the togetherness of the group,” said Smith.

Thursday the team will host Mariposa in the second round.

The Grizzlies are ranked No. 5 in the division playoff bracket.

They went 12-0 in the regular season.

Their first playoff game was a decisive one over the No. 12 ranked Leroy Greene Academy, 69-39.

Thursday's game begins at 7 p.m. at the Summerville High School gymnasium.
