The oldest running foot race in Tuolumne County is set for this weekend.
The 41st annual Pinecrest Run will take place Sunday starting with a free one-mile fun run at 8:30 a.m. and the five mile main event at 9.
The cost is $35 and participants may register on race day on the beach at Pinecrest Lake or online at ultrasignup.com. Participants receive a T-shirt and finishing medal.
The course starts at the beach, traverses beside the lake before going up a hill and finishing back at the start.
The proceeds from the race are being used to try and reopen an elementary school that was shut down several years ago.
The record for the five mile run is 28 minutes, 34.49 seconds set in 2005 by Austin Ramos, of Fair Oaks. The women’s record is 33:35 set in 1985 by Heidi Perham who was visiting from the Bay Area.
