Summerville High School graduate Kelsey Darrin will continue her soccer career next season at Midway University in Kentucky.

Darrin, a 2015 Bears grad, signed her National Letter of Intent last month at Lake Tahoe Community College where she spent the last two years.

Darrin was awarded an academic and athletic scholarship the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) university that will cover most of the cost.

“Kelsey is a versatile central midfielder who has the ability to dribble through defenders while looking for the open player,” Midway head coach Sherrill Smith told www.gomidwayeagles.com. “She possesses excellent balance and deception and is always a threat around the goal.”

Darrin was a two-year starter at center midfielder for Lake Tahoe and helped the Coyotes to their winningest season ever in 2016. They also earned second place in the Golden Valley Conference, their best finish ever.

Darrin was a standout student and athlete at Summerville. She played soccer all four years and received the Athletic Academic Award in 2014 and 2015.

At Lake Tahoe, Darrin won the Scholar-Athlete Award in 2016, the State of California Scholar-Athlete Award in 2016 and she also won the Dean’s Choice Award in 2016, according to www.gomidwayeagles.com.

Darrin intends to major in liberal studies.

“Kelsey excels in the classroom and possess a very high character, Smith told the school’s website. “She should be a natural fit in our system of play. I look forward to coaching Kelsey and seeing how she continues to grow as a student-athlete.”
