Call McClintock about immigration bill

To the Editor:

More than 650 children were separated from their parents at the U.S. border during a two-week period in May, according to the government’s own figures.

The UN Office for Human Rights condemned the practice saying in 1989 the United States and 195 other countries signed the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child forbidding separating children from their parents. The world joined to protect children with this document that says this is a crime against humanity.

These 650 children, some as young as 15 months, are now in a warehouse in Texas, and not even a U.S. senator was allowed to enter to see under what conditions these children are being held. Private contractors run many centers, and there is no information on the people staffing them. The government now declines to say how many children are warehoused.

If you believe that children should not be the hostages of politics, and as innocent victims should not suffer the anguish of being taken from their parents, please take action on your beliefs.

The GOP is voting on immigration next week, and maybe this can be addressed.

Call Rep. McClintock at 202-225-2511.
