Disrespecting the American Flag

The colors of the American Flag represent various things.

White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness and valor, and Blue, vigilance, perseverance and justice.

Also the fifty stars represent our states. The stripes represent the original thirteen colonies.

Through the years the flag changed to show more stars for each state annexed to our nation.

This flag has been sacred to our country from the very beginning. I feel it is the cohesive bond that makes us truly Americans.

When thousands of lives were lost to secure the tiny island of Iwo Jima our brave marines planted that beautiful flag on top of that mountain.

Flags are draped over the coffins of returning soldiers lost in battle and given to their relatives.

Also a flag was placed on the moon by our brave astronauts.

This beautiful American flag permeates our whole country.

My uncle was interned in a Japanese prisoner of war camp for four years. He wrote a book about his incarceration and the indignant treatment perpetrated by the Japanese.

After his service to our country, my uncle built a flag pole and displayed the flag for the rest of his life.

Now NFL players are taking a knee or sitting when the National Anthem is being played or sung and flag is being displayed.

It shows utter disrespect and indignity for the many men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives for such freedom.

Granted these men have the right to demonstrate.

They should use another platform to show their anger of police brutality, and racial injustice.

The colors of the NFL players makes no difference to me.

If the National Hockey League players sat out or took a knee it would be just as repugnant.

Please join me and boycott the NFL.

It is the sanctity and love for our fallen people and our flag that compels me to write this letter.
