Born in Niles in 1936, he was saved by the Lord on May 6, 2019, in Ripon after a cancer diagnosis only 15 days prior. He was a former resident of Ripon, Sonora, Fremont and Oakland.
Served as a Marine during the Korean War with an honorable discharge & longtime member of the Laborers Union.
He enjoyed listening to Mexican music, fixing clocks, teaching others how to do home repairs and to “mexicanize” things. Duct tape was a favorite tool. He cherished his years as a cowhand training horses and being a grandfather and great-grandfather.
Greeted in Heaven by his parents Jose & Maximina Gutierrez; sister Virginia Ramos and brother Ruben Gutierrez. Survived by wife Mercy Gutierrez; sister Lupe Morales; children Nick, Val Gutierrez and Becca Fugit; granddaughters Ronni Gutierrez-Glanz and Toni Moran; grandson Nick Stewart; great-granddaughters Izzy Papst and Priscilla Moran; great-grandson Anthony Moran Jr.; son-in-law Dennis Fugit and grandson-in-law Anthony Moran.
Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 27 at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. Following at 3:30 p.m. will be a celebration of life at the home of his daughter Becca and her family in Ripon.
