Born on March 28, 1940, in Livermore to Ralph and Josephine (Antraccoli) Whitaker. Gerald grew up in Pleasanton. As a young boy Gerry attended Pleasanton Elementary School and Amador High School. He graduated from Amador High School Class of 1958. He entered the Army that same year and was assigned as Army PFC to the Infantry-Mortar Battery in Baumholder, Germany.
Gerry started out his working career in the concrete and building materials industry as the plant manager for many years at Cal Rock Concrete in Pleasanton, Central Concrete of San Jose, and Bay City building materials in South San Francisco. After retiring, he moved to Sonora and was involved in numerous activities including, golfing, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and was a very active member of his church and serving his community.
Gerry was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Josephine (Antraccoli) Whitaker Sr.; brothers Kenneth Whitaker, Ralph (Bud) Whitaker; sister Phyllis Pasqualone; and grandson, Douglas Bennett.
He is survived by his loving wife Sigrid Whitaker of 56 years; his daughters Elizabeth Beuttel (Scott); daughter Alison Paim (Rick); grandchildren, Haley Cook (Chris), Samuel Bennett (Kirsten); great-grandchildren, Samuel Gerald Bennett, Jr. and a new one on the way anytime, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He will be missed greatly by his family and friends and remembered for his kind and gentle heart, his strength of character, his strong faith and love of God and country, and the unconditional love he showed to everyone. We are comforted that we will reunite with him in Heaven one day.
Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial at 11 a.m. Wednesday June 5, 2019 at The Journey Church of Sonora, 14425 Mono Way, Sonora, CA 95370.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to the Journey Church of Sonora, as Gerry was in charge of the grounds committee for the church. All donations will go to that effort on his behalf.
