Forrest Alan Sanders passed away unexpectedly on May 12, 2019. He collapsed from heart failure. He died in the shade of a blue oak tree, surrounded by family, with the comfort of his wife by his side. He was 71, healthy, young and strong.

Forrest was born on June 6, 1947 in Arcata, California, to Lars and Rena Sanders. He was the eldest of his three siblings, Evelyn, Ross and Aaron. Forrest spent the majority of his childhood in the natural beauty of Calaveras County, camping, hunting, fishing, boating and being immersed in the great outdoors.

Forrest met his love, Marlys, in college in 1967. Their 50 year marriage began in 1968. In 1973, Forrest completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Arts. That year, Forrest and Marlys were also blessed with their first child, Michelle.

The small family settled in Hathaway Pines, Ca. While living there, children Lisa and Kristofor were born. Forrest began his joint business, Sanders Precision Timber Falling, with his brother, Ross, in 1985. His strong work ethic and love of the wilderness kept him active in logging until the day he died.

Through the years, Forrest and Marlys had some relocations, but have spent the last 30 years in El Dorado Hills, California. In those years, their family expanded as Michelle married Chris Lewis and had a daughter, Alexandria. Lisa married Michael Kielich and had son, Forest, and daughter, Mila. Kristofor married Andrea Springer and had son, Hudson and daughter, Jade. Forrest was an exceptional husband, father and grandfather.

Forrest was loved deeply, and he cherished his family. He was unique in this world. He had a gentle spirit and a humble heart inside an independent and capable body. He practiced simplicity but had a brilliant mind. He was at peace in nature...deep, quiet nature. He was a woodworking artist and a craftsman. He was kind.

Forrest is greatly missed. He was a rock and a shelter. He was beautiful and free.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 8th, at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection located at 6365 Douglas Blvd., Granite Bay, Ca. 95746.

In gratitude of Forrest’s volunteer work, donations can be made in his honor to www.snowlinehospice.org .
