Geneva “Jean” A. Mundy, 95, passed away on May 12, 2019, at Samaritan Village Assistance in Hughson.
Jean was born in Lincoln Parish Louisiana and grew her up on her father’s farm in Ralston, Louisiana. She went to high school in Shreveport, Louisiana. She met her husband, Paul, at a soda shop in Ralston when he was stationed in Shreveport. On their second date her husband-to-be while practicing his Air Force duties parachuted out of an airplane and landed at her father’s farm and asked for her hand in marriage — it was love at first sight. After the couple married, Paul was relocated to the Alameda Naval Air Station. Just being months as newlyweds, my mother packed up all of her belongings and move to Alameda to find on her arrival that Paul was re-stationed to Hickam Field in Honolulu. Not to be alone, her mother and father and two sisters all moved to Alameda to be with my mother.
Geneva A. Mundy, former Sonora resident, retired in 1977 from Oakland public schools after 35 years of dedicated service as a media specialist at the county schools office. Jean and Paul retired to their summer home in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
Family and friends called her Jean. Jean had a love for traveling and traveled the world with her son, Paul Jr., over the years. Jean’s favorite past time was quilting. She made over 100 individual quilts from small wall hangings to full-size bed coverings, winning many blue ribbons at the Mother Lode Fair.
Jean had a wonderful spirit and made friends wherever she traveled and lived. She will be truly missed by so many friends and loved ones.
Jean is survived by her son, Paul E. Mundy Jr., and granddaughter Sheraden A. Mundy. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Paul E. Mundy Sr, and her sister Linda J. Mundy.
Private services will be held.
