Ruth Ellen Akin was born in L.A. County and grew up in South Gate. She worked on a defense plant during the war. Ruth met Earl on a blind date and, after three dates, the two were wed on July 2, 1944. She resided in Tuolumne County for 68 years. Back in the ’60s she enjoyed her time bowling, knitting and reading.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Earl Akin; daughter, Susan, of Sonora; son, Dennis, and his wife, Phyllis, of Kentucky; grandchildren, Sheila, of Jamestown, William, of Sonora, Molly, of Costal, Chris, of Rancho Murieta and Robert, of Elk Grove; great-grandchildren, Maddison, Cody, Emily, Megan, Mia, Jaxson, Emmy, and Haley, as well as numerous other family members and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Larry, 2018; sisters, Helen in 2009 and Marie in 2014; and mother, Estella in 1987.

There is no service planned, but a private family gathering will be held. We would like to thank the Neptune Kaeman Whitman Society of Central California and Hospice for all their care and support.
