Rod Brezina died on March 6, 2019, with his wife, Betty, at his side.
Rod was a true Renaissance man. His accomplishments were unlimited. He studied engineering at San Jose State. He was an adventurer, traveler, architect, real estate broker, contractor, pilot and snow plow master! He was a friend to everyone he met and could throw a fantastic party! He shared his talents and knowledge with many. After years in the Boy Scouts camping at Pinecrest Lake and surrounding areas, Rod gained a love for the Sierras. He moved to Strawberry in 1955 after being discharged from the Army. He built a house and became a regular member of the community, joining the Dodge Ridge Ski Patrol and eventually opened Rod Brezina Real Estate office in Strawberry. He continued in construction and built many of the beautiful vacation homes around Pinecrest and Strawberry.
Rod was very proud of his work as a Rotarian in Sonora, and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. His work with Rotary made him friends all over the world.
Rod married Betty in 1995. Together they ran the real estate office, handling sales and vacation rentals. They traveled to Europe, and Rod revisited places he had been as a younger man and people he made friends with along the way. He and Betty split their time between Strawberry and the Villa in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, driving down every year to just enjoy
life. There was plenty of room, and friends and family were always invited.
Rod is survived by his wife, Betty; his brother, Wendell, of Arizona; his stepchildren, Dawn Senften and Carl Chapman; grandsons, Matthew, Jesse and Colin; and great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Elizabeth and Jarik.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice Services of St. Joseph”s Health, in care of Memorial Hospital, 439 College Ave., Santa Rosa, California 95401
A celebration of Rod’s life will be held at a later date.
