Robert Gerald O’Connell (Bob) went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 6, 2019 in his home in Groveland. Born in Portland, Oregon, on July 20, 1946, and soon after moved to Redwood City, where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Sequoia High School in 1964, that was also the year that Bob traveled to New York City where he won a National Juniors Ballroom Championship dancing the Quick Step. Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1966-1969. He attended Naval Submarine School, where he graduated first in his class. He proudly served on the first crew of the submarine USS Mariano G. Vallejo (SSBN 658).
Bob spent 30 years working for various car dealerships. His most rewarding career was his 13 years at Sportvision in television production before retiring. Bob’s steadfast work won four Emmy awards which he considered a great honor. He was a member of the Groveland Evangelical Free Church where he served as a trustee using his many gifts and talents to help others. Bob loved spending time with family and reading and reciting poetry. He held a lifelong interest in cars, car racing and model trains and enjoyed traveling by car. Bob’s favorite place in the world was Yosemite where he hiked and camped with family and friends. He was humble, kind and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His hugs and smiles will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cathy; his two children, Shannon McNair (Dan) Christopher O’Connell (Kellee); five granddaughters, Madison, Erin, Allison, Keira and Cailyn and many extended family members. He was predeceased by his mother, Helen Carmel O’Connell.

Friday, March 15, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Cornerstone Fellowship, 348 North Canyons Pkwy Livermore, CA 94551. Saturday, March 16, 2019 1p.m. at Groveland Evangelical Free Church, 19172 Ferretti Road Groveland, CA 95321.
