Lorin F. Smith, 81, of Jamestown, passed away Dec. 28, 2018. He was born in Berkeley and grew up in Davis, where he graduated from Davis High School and UC Davis with a degree in agricultural engineering.
Lorin worked for various ag-related organizations, including in Australia and Central America, and retired from the U.S. Forest Service in Sonora in 1998.
His wife, Carol, preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, Robert D. Smith and his wife, Suzanne (Fresno); stepchildren, Lea Ann Shook (Sonora), Yvonne Rodriguez (Washington), Mary Sue Charles (Sonora), Charlene Bayers (Jamestown), Larry Rodriguez (Jamestown), and Stephen Rodriguez (Modesto). Also many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as two nephews and a niece.
Lorin was a member of Sons in Retirement and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a lifelong Giants and 49ers fan.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
