Barney Vucasovich was born March 13, 1937, in Sonora. He lived in Sonora all his life.

He joined the Air Force and was transferred to Japan, where he met and married the love of his life. Aiko Hio Vucasovich was born Sept. 11, 1932, and lived in Japan until she married Barney on April 15, 1959, and they moved to Browns Flat in Sonora. They lived, worked and raised their family in Sonora, the town they loved. Barney passed away on Dec. 9, 2018, and Aiko just a few days later on Dec. 12, 2018. They are survived by son John and his daughter, Olivia; son Jim, his wife Carrie, and their daughter, Jessica.

They were preceded in death by their baby daughter, Christina; their parents, Lazaro and Elena Vucasovich and Tahachiro and Mito Hio.

Barney will be remembered for his love of animals and his incredible green thumb. He was well known for always having a beautiful garden.

Aiko was a loving, giving and caring mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her unwavering support of her favorite baseball team, the San Francisco Giants. She was loved by all who knew her and we will miss her ever-present smile and gentle nature.

A private family burial took place at Mountain Shadow Cemetery on Dec. 21, 2018. A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2019, and details will be announced at a later time.
