Sara Ann “Sally” (Waterbury) Barker, 87, of Sonora, died Nov. 27.

Sally was born in Oakland and worked as a records manager for the California Department of Corrections.

She and her husband, Len, loved to collect Department 56 Dicken’s Village houses. Len built platforms to display them on and Sally set them up beautifully.

Sally also volunteered as a Pink Lady for 26 years at Orchard Hospital in Gridley and was a member of a garden club, a women’s club and was involved in church activities. She also enjoyed being involved in her grandchildrens’ activities, including sports and band.

She lived in Gridley for most of her life before moving to Sonora two years ago.

Sally is survived by a son, Richard Klavenweiden, of Sonora; two grandchildren, Joshua Klaverweiden, of Susanville, and Kimberly Klaverweiden, of Sonora; five great-grandchildren; and her sister, Helen Waterbury, of Sacramento.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Barker, in 2016; a brother, Dick Waterbury; her son, John Klaverweiden, in 2003; and by her grandson, Kenneth Klaverweiden, in 2016.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 15, at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel, 679 Ohio St., in Gridley.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to victims of the Camp Fire, per Sally’s last Christmas wish.
