Catherine Gamble Dies peacefully passed away on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at Avalon Care Center in Sonora.

She was born April 2, 1928, in Merced to Charles H. Gamble and Gladys Thomason.

She came to Tuolumne County in 1949 to pursue her teaching career, starting at Summerville Elementary for two years. She then moved to Sonora Elementary for 21 years where she finished her career. During this time, she also took 10 years off to raise her family.

Catherine was very proud of being a teacher at those two schools and especially proud that she was always able to teach the younger children in grades K-4.

Albert and Catherine were married in 1952, and Albert passed in 1994. They were a good couple, both working outside the home and sharing domestic duties.

Catherine is survived by her daughter, Linda, and her husband, Duane Snider; daughter, Jenny Kajla, and her husband, Shaun, with their two children, Brian and Christy; and by her son, Bill Dies, his wife, Diane, and their sons, Ryan and Matthew. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Bettencourt, and numerous and well-loved nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of life memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at the Church of the 49ers in Columbia. A reception at the Church Hall will follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Church of the 49ers or the American Cancer Society.
