Constance Chinn Stewart passed away on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at the age of 96, in Columbia.
Connie was born on Oct. 14, 1921, in Oakland, California, to the late Yuey and Fannie Chinn. She was raised and received her education in the Oakland community and was a graduate of Oakland Tech High School, class of 1940.
Connie was united in marriage to John M. “Jack” Stewart on July 14, 1951, in Ukiah, California, following which they resided in Oakland. Her husband passed away in 1964, leaving her with five children between the ages of 3 and 12. She never remarried. In 1991, at the age of 70, Connie moved to Tuolumne County where, for the first 19 years, she lived in Sonora. For the remaining seven years of her life she lived with her daughter, Ilene Tassano, in Columbia, where she received loving care up until her last day.
Connie was a professional seamstress for close to 25 years. Besides sewing, she also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and baking.
She is preceded in passing by her parents; her husband, Jack Stewart; four brothers and three sisters; and one grandson.
Constance is survived by her children, John Patrick Stewart, of Martinez, California; Ilene Stewart Tassano, of Columbia; Deborah Stewart Trout, of Auburn, California; Michael Alan Stewart, of San Diego, California; Robert Kirk Stewart, of Twain Harte, California; and Linda Diana Fisher, of Tucson, Arizona; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She will be laid to rest with her husband at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, California. A private family gathering will be held there at a later date.
