Karen Irene Newhoff, 76, passed away on Jan. 6 in her hometown of Sonora. She was the mother of Laurie Christie (Marc), Donna Eichenberger, Cheryl Smith (Vince), Keith Eichenberger (Susan), and Scott Eichenberger (Lori). She was the “Nana” of Christopher, Kimberley, Kate, Melissa, Nicole, Brandon, Mary-Elizabeth, Casey and Anna-Grace. She was the great-grandma of Sawyer.
Born in Aurora, Illinois, she was the daughter of Myrtle and Kenneth Tholin. She was the eldest of four children. She was the sister to Linda Emmons, Kenneth and Keith Tholin.
Karen moved to California in 1963. She was a supervisor at Tuolumne County Social Services. In (1990-93) she opened Linen and Lace in Jamestown, California. She was a member of the English Cocker Club of Northern California and a past member of the Irish Setter Club of the Pacific. Karen had a love for her garden, showing her dogs and entertaining. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength and love for her family.
Her memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 17 at Sierra Bible Church, 15171 Tuolumne Road in Sonora. There will be a celebration of life immediately following at Black Oak Casino Resort Hotel, 19400 Tuolumne Road N., Tuolumne.
