Chrystal June Dickman, 102, passed away at her residence surrounded by family and friends. After leaving Michigan in 1943, she came to California to be with her husband, who was in the Navy. She moved several times while in California. She was a longtime resident of Tracy, Groveland and finally settling in Coulterville. June was born in Clio, Michigan, June 19, 1915, and was one of eight children. She grew up in Michigan, helping to take care of her siblings at a very young age after the passing of her mother. She spent her life taking care of others and raising a family. She served as a 4-H and Girl Scout Leader in her younger years in Livermore. June enjoyed sewing, making clothes, quilting and crocheting afghan blankets that she gave away to many people. She loved gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, camping with the family at Yosemite National Park, doing crosswords and reading. June loved the time she spent with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, James Dickman and his wife, Ella, of Brashear, Texas, Dennis Dickman and his wife, Carol, of Livermore, and Dorothy Scofield and husband, Lester, of Groveland; siblings, Arlene Kompik, Chuck Bowden, Mary Lou Mitteer all of Michigan; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
June was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jay J. Dickman (passed 1994); grandson, Jimmie Gunn Jr. (passed 2002); and parents, Charles and Lena Bowden.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 1 at the Tracy Public Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road in Tracy.
A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 5 at Hotchkiss Mortuary in Tracy.
