Husband. Father. Brother. Officer. Friend.

Mike was born in Inglewood, California, and was the fifth of seven children born to Charles and Ruth Halligan Christ. He was a graduate of Summerville High School and a proud graduate of the Modesto Police Academy. From a young age, Mike knew he wanted to be a police officer, and he fulfilled that dream for over 30 years. His law enforcement career included time with Tuolumne County Sheriff, Huntington Beach Police and Sonora Police. He was fortunate to experience some special details in his career, including SWAT, K9, CSI, beach detail, motor officer, and school resource officer.

Mike and his wife, Patty, met while both worked for the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office and were married for over 32 years. They moved to Huntington Beach, where they both worked for HBPD for 12 years. They later decided to move back to Tuolumne County to raise their three boys, Joshua, Joseph, and Jeremy. Mike went to work for Sonora PD and finished his law enforcement career as a school resource officer, a position he cherished. He had a way of talking to troubled students and developed a rapport with many of them.

He is survived by his wife, Patty, and three boys, Josh (Christina), Joey (Kristiana), and Jeremy (Stacey); one grandson, Jaxson Christ; four sisters, Mary Roulette (John), Patty Gants (Ron), Lori Anthony, and Ruthie Collins (Terry); brother, Tom Christ (Jodi); father-in-law, Alex Urrutia; sisters-in-law, Pam Christ, Nancy Urrutia and Judy Zanolini (Dan); brother-in-law, Jake Urrutia; uncle, John Halligan; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews, that he remained close with over the years. Mike also leaves behind some special friends who he always considered brothers, Dan Imfeld, Robert Lyon, Richard Gutierrez, Dave Avery, Steve Bentley, Stan Procter (and Tonie), Ibrahim Khalil (and Brenda), Turu Vanderwiel (and Jennifer), and Dennis Townsend (and Debbie); and all his law enforcement brothers and sisters, too numerous to mention, but all were special to him. “Be safe, Brother,” was how he would end a conversation with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth Christ; brother Chuck Christ; and aunt Donna Halligan.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds, Sierra building. An emergency service vehicle procession will precede to the fairgrounds, and the celebration will begin at 2 p.m.
