Jim Cruson passed away on Sept. 18, 2017, in Modesto. He was born Dec. 19, 1937, in Weaverville.

Jim worked 37 years at United Airlines, served four years in the U S. Air Force, one year in the US Army Reserve, and 23 years in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He was a Boy Scout of America, Scoutmaster for many years, helping many young men, including his sons and grandsons earn merit badges and become Eagle Scouts.

Jim loved the outdoors, his family and friends, especially those here in Sonora. This was indeed his happiest place enjoying life with the one he loved most, Elsa. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was loved by many and will be missed by all; until we meet again.

Jim is survived by his wife of 32 years, Elsa Cruson; his children, Mark Cruson, Myklind Cruson-Messinger, Marri Cruson-Sarmiento, Javier Descalzi, Carolina Descalzi and Patricia Descalzi-Bomberg; 13 grandchildren, Janessa Hatch, Ashley Messinger, Cassandra Severson, Chase Messinger, James Sarmiento, Bryce Messinger, Jonathan Roberts, Makayla Sarmiento, Rachel Roberts, Dillon Sarmiento, Katie Roberts, Samantha Descalzi and Charlie Descalzi; two great-grandchildren, Indy Mae Severson and Duke Noble Hatch; and one brother, Ed Cruson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luda V. Scarborough, in 1976, and Edmond V. Cruson, in 1994.

Services will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 19481 Hillsdale Drive, Sonora.
