Tom Eggleston was born in Springfield, Illinois, where he attended high school and community college. After serving in Vietnam, he used the GI Bill to obtain a private pilot's license and helicopter license. Over the years he acquired many related certifications.

He flew agricultural work, fishing boat work, Grand Canyon tours, worked on a “Muppet” movie with Jim Henson and did firefighting work for the Forest Service and Cal Fire. When asked what he did for a living, he would answer "I save trees."
He lectured in Kuala Lumpur at a worldwide firefighting conference, created a personal web page outlining his passion for flying, and wrote a column in our local newspaper called The Flight Line.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Dorene; his daughter, Barbara; and two grandsons.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
