A long-running local Christmas attraction for children and their families will return to downtown Sonora next week when Santa’s Workshop opens in Courthouse Square.

City of Sonora Public Works employees set up the workshop on Tuesday.

Santa Claus will be at the workshop posing for photos with children and listening to what they want for Christmas beginning next Wednesday, Dec. 11, and running through Christmas Eve.

His schedule will be 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m on Saturdays, and noon to 3:30 p.m. on Sundays, Dec. 23, and Christmas Eve.

Ol’ Saint Nick will also be making an appearance at the Heart Rock Cafe at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 14 for milk and cookies, then will go to Little Roots Toy Shop at 2:30 p.m. for games.

He will decorate cookies at Eighty One bakery at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 21, followed by games at Little Roots Toy Shop at 2:30 p.m.

The annual tradition of having Santa’s Workshop at Courthouse Square dates back to at least the early 1960s.
