People planning to attend the 36th annual Historic Downtown Sonora Christmas Parade on Friday should be aware of several street closures and parking restrictions that will be in effect.
The parade begins at 6 p.m. and follows Washington Street from the St. James Episcopal Church to Restano Way. There will be a free trolley running every 15 minutes from The Junction shopping center in East Sonora and Walmart on Sanguinetti Road in Sonora.
Streets that will be closed beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday are: South Washington St. at Hospital Road, North and South Washington St., Stockton Road at Green Street, Snell Street at Bonanza Street, and Restano Way at Mono Way and South Washington Street.
School Street between Washington and Snell streets will also be closed at 3:30 p.m.
Parking will not be allowed on Washington Street from Elkin to Toby streets or Stockton Road from South Washington Street to 70 Stockton Road between 4 p.m. and the end of the parade.
There will also be no parking between 4 p.m. and the end of the parade on the following side streets: Elkin, Dodge, Jackson, Bradford, Theall, Linoberg, Church, June, Gold, Williams, Lytton and Yaney Avenue.
The Sonora Police Department encourages people to arrive before 5 p.m.
Tuolumne County Transit is sponsoring the free trolley service that will pick people up in front of TJ Maxx in The Junction shopping center and Walmart.
The trolley will run in a loop from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and begin taking people back at the end of the parade.
