Sonora police are letting the public know about a concerning find made during an arrest last month.
The department put out a statement Wednesday detailing the Feb. 15 arrest of parolee Jonathon Michael Gavi, 36, of Jamestown.
Gavi was wanted on a felony no-bail warrant for evading parole when a Sonora Police Department officer spotted him about 5 p.m. Feb. 15 while patrolling near the Arco ampm mini-mart and gas station on Pesce Way.

After officers contacted Gavi and arrested him without incident, they searched his vehicle under the conditions of his parole and found 59 grams of suspected fentanyl, 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a large canister of Bear Mace, a collapsible baton, billy club, as well as items “commonly associated with drug sales,” the department stated.
What prompted the department to notify the public about the arrest Wednesday was the fentanyl found in Gavi’s vehicle had been labeled as “CBD candy” and packaged in a way to “look attractive to young people, as well as deceive law enforcement,” the statement said.
CBD, or cannabidiol, is an active ingredient in cannabis that’s often used in medicinal products, but does not cause the euphoric “high” sensation of THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, according to the National Institutes of Health.
“We want all parents and people of our community to be aware that fentanyl could be packed in ways that would not normally cross your mind as fentanyl,” the department stated Wednesday. “Please contact law enforcement immediately if you find any sort of packaging like this or similar.”
Gavi was booked into Dambacher Detention Center on a no-bail hold for the felony warrant, in addition to $30,000 bail on suspicion of felony possession of drugs for sale, unlawful possession of tear gas, manufacturing a leaded cane, transporting drugs, and misdemeanor possession of a narcotic controlled substance and possession of unlawful paraphernalia.
He posted bond and was released from the jail on Tuesday after his no-bail parole hold was dropped, jail officials said.
