A 24-year-old man from Westland, Michigan, died in a car crash Wednesday in Groveland.
The man, whose name had not been released by California Highway Patrol pending family notification as of Thursday afternoon, was reportedly driving west in a 2001 Nissan Altima on Highway 120 at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred about 3:10 p.m.
He allowed his car to travel to the right onto the north shoulder of the highway and crashed into a tree before he could get back onto the roadway, the CHP reported.
The man was the solo occupant of the vehicle and died at the scene from his injuries. It was determined that he was wearing his seatbelt at the time, though CHP said it’s unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor.
CHP said the accident remained under investigation.
