Sonora Pass on Highway 108 and Ebbetts Pass on Highway 4 will remain temporarily closed this weekend due to excess snow and icy conditions, while Yosemite National Park officials announced the winter seasonal closure for Tioga Pass and Glacier Point on Friday.
Caltrans said the high-altitude mountain conditions on Highway 108 in Tuolumne County to Mono County, Highway 4 in Calaveras County to Alpine County and Highway 89 (which traverses through multiple counties north to south) make it unsafe to open.
The passes were also closed last weekend due to freezing temperatures and an approaching storm. They were closed on Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. according to Caltrans.
The passes will be reassessed next week, Caltrans said.
Yosemite National Park announced that Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road within the park would be closed for the winter season.
The park remains open with snow removal on all other roads, but drivers are required to carry tire chains on their vehicles during the winter due to road and weather conditions.
The roads will reopen in the spring when weather and road conditions permit.
