A five foot wide, four foot tall and six inch thick 2,400 pound slab of granite with artwork by Groveland veteran Christina Wilkinson is now in place at Tuolumne Veterans Memorial Hall.
Boone’s Memorial and Kevin’s Crane Company erected the memorial Friday.
The 9/11 memorial also features two slightly smaller granite plaques, one on the left dedicated to Operation Enduring Freedom, on the right to Operation Iraqi Freedom. A brick walkway will lead to an elevated platform with a flagpole, a time capsule and a case containing artifacts from the twin towers.
“It’s exciting and very satisfying because we’ve had such great help from the community. It is truly a community project.” says Frank Smart.
And he said, “it looks great.”
