A Groveland man died Wednesday when his pickup truck crashed into a tree next to Ferretti Road, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson based in Jamestown said.

The crash happened about 2:50 p.m. The 75-year-old man was driving a 2009 Toyota pickup west on Ferretti, west of Otter, at 35 to 40 miles per hour when the pickup went off the north shoulder and crashed into the tree.

Other motorists stopped and got the man out of the pickup and tried to revive him, but he died at the scene, Officer Steve Machado with CHP Sonora said Thursday.

The man was wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to be factors in the crash.

The man’s name was being withheld pending family notification. Investigation of the crash was continuing.

The location of the crash was near the entrance to Fisherman's Cove on the north side of Pine Mountain Lake.
